Rising star Cole Morgan made a big move in the F2000 Championship points this weekend with a 3rd place finish and a win. Morgan entered the weekend 3rd in the points despite missing the opening races at VIR. The Florida native qualified 3rd for race one and crossed the stripe in the same position. "I'm pleased with my results from race one because it helped tremendously in the points championship. I tried to run a smart but aggressive race and it worked out. Mid-Ohio is always tough to pass so that hurt us a little bit, we had the fastest lap so those bonus points will really help", said Morgan.
He backed up his strong run Saturday with a front row starting spot for race two. At the start he made a superb pass for the lead on the outside. After that it was relatively smooth sailing as he crossed the finish line a second ahead of Vassmer to claim the victory despite numerous full course cautions. As of now, he is the only multiple race winner this year, with 4 victories.
Moving up to second in the championship just two points out of the lead the ecstatic teenager had this to say, "It feels so great to be back on the top step of the podium. It starts to get to you after you have won a few races and the victories stop coming, but we're back and it is awesome. My car was amazing, it has been all year. I can't praise my team enough; St. Clair Motorsports are most certainly on top of their game. We have such a great chemistry that makes these wins even better. The F2000 Series has proven time and time again that it is the toughest field of 2.0 Liter cars in the country." The final two rounds of the F2000 Championship Series will be run at Lime Rock Park. Morgan is looking forward to making a strong run for the title.
