The Dona family proves it's "Not About the Money"

March 23 /05, Sandown, New Hampshire -When Chris Dona won the American Continental Championship in 2003 he was proof that it takes determination and skill to win a championship and not a huge bank account. Since his start in racing in 1998, Dona and his father have always managed to be able to run their own car. Dona says, "I take pride in challenging the big teams and their big budgets." Many of those "big teams" can be found in the 2005 round of the Formula Ford ZETEC Cooper Championship Series.

With a start in Formula Ford (1998 - 2000) running in the Northeast NARRC and NERRC Championships as well as a few NE National races, the '81 Crossle' 45F car they campaigned was an important tool in the racing experience he would accumulate. Continued racing experience in 2001 to 2003 came in the form of competing in SCCA Nat'l level Formula Continental and Zetec series ACC. 2004 saw Dona in six Zetec races with a highest finish of 4th at Mosport.

With the 2005 racing season start being right around the hairpin, Dona and his sponsors, Rexxon Engineering, RaceLift, (Kashuk, Bourgault, Kittredge & Frustaci, PC), Barberry Chimney Services and Exotech Au, anticipate finishing up near the front at the drop of the checkered flag. One of the Dona milestones during the 2003 American Continental Champion Zetec series was that he broke Dan Wheldon's track record at Sebring. This record, still held today, was a result of winning 6 of 8 races to dominate the ACC class. Dona views this experience as well as the lessons from 2004 in the Formula Ford ZETEC Cooper Championship Series as the basis to compete at the top levels in 2005.

Dona, born on September 15, 1974, is currently an electrical engineer with degree from the University of Lowell. When he is not racing he spends most of his time outdoors taking advantage of his surroundings. Mountain biking, hiking, skiing and kayaking are a few of the sports Chris participates in. The Formula Ford ZETEC season begins on April 15 - 17 at the Grand Prix of Atlanta. To find out more information on the Cooper Championship Series log onto www.cooperseries.com
