Andersen Walko Racing Ready for Road Atlanta This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, N.J., April 20 -- Andersen Walko Racing, one of the top formula car prep shops in the country, will field six cars in Cooper Tires Championship events this weekend at Road Atlanta Motorsports Park in Braselton, Ga.

The team, based in Fairfield, N.J. and North Versailles, Pa., will bring three Formula Ford Zetec cars to the starting grid as well as a trio of Formula SCCA machines. Both divisions have testing on Thursday, qualifying on Friday and a race each on both Saturday and Sunday.

Andrew Prendeville of Monroeville, Pa.; Adam Pecorari of Aston, Pa. and Mike Andersen of Green Pond, N.J. will represent the team in the Formula Ford Zetec doubleheader.

Danny Abbale of Northport, N.Y.; Jonathan Klein of Long Grove, Ill. and Chris Meredith of Potomac, Md. will carry the team's colors in the two Formula SCCA races.

Prendeville hopes to resume where he left off at the season opener at Sebring, Fla. last month -- on the top step of the podium in victory lane.

Pecorari also had a good weekend at Sebring, and will be trying to improve on his second- and fourth-place finishes and get a victory too.

Although he's tested, Andersen just wants to get a race under his belt. He's running a limited schedule, and Road Atlanta will be his first race of the new season.

Prendeville and Pecorari are going for the championship this year, and they're already tabulating points in their heads like accountants did numbers last week as the tax deadline approached.

Andersen, the reigning SCCA Formula Continental champion, is working the numbers too. He's trying to make as many points as possible in the three or four events he'll run this year. In addition, he's also crunching the numbers that the cars' Pi systems produce as the team's data acquisitions specialist.

Prendeville has an additional role with the team too -- driver coach. With three teens determined to learn everything they can in the FSCCA ranks as his charges, he'll have his hands full this weekend too. Abbale is 17, while Klein and Meredith will turn 17 next month.

Meredith, who is sponsored by MII Security Consultants, came away from Sebring with a third and a fifth. Abbale's best finish there was a sixth. Klein didn't have the results he was hoping for at Sebring, and he'll be doing his best to change all that this weekend at Road Atlanta. Among the many people cheering on Klein will be his sponsors, which include Nexus Distribution Corp., Midwest Steel & Services, Ironclad Performance Wear, ProStar, Kalfact Plastics and Fettes, Love & Sieben.

A 30-minute qualifying session for the FF Zetec cars is slated for 3:20 p.m. Friday. The 20-lap races, which should take about the same time, are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

The FSCCA cars qualify in a half-hour session beginning at 12:05 p.m. Friday. Their races are slated for 9:50 a.m. Saturday morning and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
