AWR's Prendeville Fourth on Sunday; Pecorari Brothers Place in Top 10 Too

MONTEREY, Calif., May 2 - Andersen Walko Racing's Andrew Prendeville is nothing if not consistent.

For the second day in a row the Montoursville, Pa. driver finished where he started in Formula Ford Zetec action at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca here, placing fourth Sunday afternoon in the Cooper Tires Championship Series event with his Racelink/Roos Racing School/Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford No. 25.

The Pecorari brothers of Aston, Pa. also finished in the top 10 for the second consecutive day. On Sunday Adam was seventh while Robbie finished right behind his older brother in eighth to round out the weekend's results for the team, which is based in North Versailles, Pa. and Fairfield, N.J. Adam, who started eighth, drove the SAI Hydraulics/AWR Van Diemen Ford No. 28. Robbie started 11th in the SAI/Earl's/Lucky/Arai/Biesse/AWR Van Diemen Ford No. 9.

"The front four were nose-to-tail the entire race, but with the way this track is and how close the cars are, we couldn't pass," Prendeville said afterwa rds. "The only way you could move up is if someone made a mistake or had problems, so really there isn't much to tell on this one."

The top four positions never changed throughout the 21-lap race. Ian Lacy won again; Jason Bowles was second and Bobby Wilson finished third.

"Bowles and Wilson finished ahead of me today, but considering that I had some problems in practice, I was just happy to get away with some points here," Prendeville added.

For the first three laps Adam Pecorari thought he was going to the front, but unfortunately it didn't turn out that way today.

"The car was awesome for the first three laps, but then it got a really big understeer," he said. "We just couldn't figure out the set-up here this weekend; maybe some of it was me; I don't know. I went from seventh to fifth at the start but I just couldn't hold it, and I dropped back to seventh at the end."

Robbie Pecorari had similar handling problems.

"My car was understeering in the middle and the end of the race," he related. "On the start I went from 11th to sixth, even though I had contact with somebody at the start in the left rear. It wasn't bad though; just a bump.

"These cars are cool though," he added. "I love them, and I hope to be able to race with everyone at Andersen Walko again soon."

The next FF Zetec race is May 23 at Mosport Int'l Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario.
