Andy Brumbaugh has signed with Cape Motorsports to compete in the 2003 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship. The 19 year old University of South Carolina student will, as always, drive car #86.
The season opener is at Sebring March 13 and 14, 2003. Brumbaugh said: "Cape Motorsports is a great team and I can't wait to get started! I know we will have a great year. The series will be extremely competitive this year, so I am proud to be a part of it. With a lot of hard work I don't see why we can't have some really strong results. This is a dream opportunity for me and I plan to make the most of it. It will be great to go back to Sebring with a year of experience under my belt in the Zetec series and see how far we can take the knowledge learned last season."
"We have been talking to Andy about racing together since 2000 and first tested him in 2001," said Dominic Cape, President of defending series champion Cape Motorsports. "I'm glad we finally worked something out. No doubt Andy will be a front-runner this year."
"I looked at several options for this year, everything from racing sports cars in Europe to several North American and British based open wheel series," said Brumbaugh. "I talked to a number of Toyota Atlantic team owners and their advice to develop driving and technical skills was to compete in the Zetec series."
Former karting champion Andy Brumbaugh is the 2000 SCCA Club Ford champion and the 2001 Canadian Formula Ford Champion and Rookie of the Year. He is the first American and the youngest driver in history to win the highly competitive Canadian pro series.
