Andersen Racing's Mansur and Bystrom Finish on the Podium in Second F2000 Race at Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 25 - Andersen Racing's Terrick Mansur and Noah Bystrom finished second and third, respectively, in the Hankook Tires F2000 Championship Series race Sunday at Burke Lakefront Airport here. It was the second podium appearance of the weekend for Mansur, who finished third in a similar race on Saturday that was won by another Andersen Racing driver, Ricardo Vassmer.
On Sunday Mansur did his best to catch the eventual winner, Max Hyatt, but getting through lapped traffic proved difficult in the 20-lapper on the 2.106-mile road course. Hyatt led every lap from the pole.
Bystrom, of Chanhassen, Minn., got in front of Mansur's Aruba.com car briefly, but Mansur got him back to regain second. Their battle allowed Hyatt to pull away a bit. Bystrom then came under attack from Matt McDonough but Bystrom prevailed with his car, which is sponsored by APEX Universal Joints and Cooper Power Tools.
Vassmer took the checkered flag in sixth place Sunday in his No. 2, which is sponsored by PDVSA, Citgo, Zoom and Meridiano TV. The driver from Caracas, Venezuela also set the fastest lap of the race with a new track record of 1:15.874. Unfortunately Vassmer and Cole Morgan had an altercation during and after the race that is under review by the series officials.
Juliana Gonzalez of Mexico City (No. 77) saw a solid top-10 finish disappear on the last lap when a half-shaft broke on her car. She ended up 18th in the final rundown.
Scott Willard of Weston, Conn. (BroadReach Partners No. 14) dropped out of the race after he was hit from behind by another competitor in Turn 10 on lap three.
The next F2000 Championship Series doubleheader is July 14-15 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
