The program for the Europa Cup Ireland was announced in Dublin today. This motor-racing championship is for 2-litre single-seater racing cars and will be promoted as Ireland's premier series.

All the cars are identical single-seaters, fitted with sealed 2-litre twin-cam engines developing 175 brake horse power. While set-up adjustments may be made to suit the cars to the particular racing circuit, the basic design of the car may not be altered in any way. Thus any difference in on-track performance will be solely due to the skill of the driver and his team, not by any difference in equipment.

This type of action which will be a regular feature of Europa Cup races in 2000.

The venues for Europa Cup races have a particularly Celtic feel. There will be three race weekends at Mondello Park in County Kildare, and two at Co. Down's Kirkistown. In addition, there will be races in Scotland at Knockhill, Fife, and in South Wales at Pembrey, Carmarthenshire.

Already, twelve of Ireland's best racing drivers have confirmed their entry for the series. They include Paul Dagg from Drogheda, Co. Louth, the 1999 Formula Ford Zetec Champion of Ireland, and Tony Rodgers from Lisburn, Co. Antrim who was double Irish Formula Ford 1600 Champion last year.
