Sensational victory and perfect record for Antoine Bessette
Olivier Comeau takes second place
MONT-TREMBLANT, Qc., (May 25, 2003) - In a dominating weekend for the Key Motorsport team, it was Antoine Bessette's second win in as many days as the Fédération Auto-Québec/Hankook Formula Ford Championship holds it's annual double-header spring event on Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant. In today's race, Bessette, the driver of the Elan International/Groupe Bessette/SAPL-Van Diemen entered by Key Motorsport started the 10-lap race from pole position and arrived in first place at the flag followed by teammate Olivier Comeau and Mathieu Audette.
Today's race was also the first time that drivers from the same team swept the top two finishing positions since the event at Ste-Croix last year in which Chris Green and Antoine Bessette finished 1-2 for Key Motorsport.
"It's amazing. Especially here in Mont-Tremblant. The car was flawless, the team did a great job preparing it, " said Bessette. "The best part of it was that, from start to finish, the car was very neutral, never really any issues with it. I just tried my hardest not to make any mistakes. I just can't thank (team owner) Steve Djelebian and Key Motorsport enough for giving me the opportunity to drive this great car and be a part of this great team."
Saint-Bruno's Antoine Bessette, also competes in the 2003 Barber Dodge Pro and the Pro Fran-Am 2000 Series.
The second place result for Olivier Comeau was a FAQ/Hankook Championship career best result, topping his previous best finish of third in the St-Eustache Grand Prix last October. It was the Sherbrooke's native fifth career start in Formula Ford, and the 1-2 finish capped a dream weekend for the St-Eustache based Key Motorsport team.
Slotting himself in sixth spot on the starting grid, Comeau, went from 6th to 2nd on the opening lap. An outstanding driving performance.
"It was actually really good for the first showing. After yesterday's sixth place, I think a second place finish is great start for the year and that we're going to be major contenders for the championship," said Comeau. "We are progressing every time we get on the track. We are running faster laps, more consistent. Everybody around here worked really hard. My friends and family are down here. A great weekend, an awesome way to start the year. This series met and exceeded my expectations. I had the highest expectations coming in, and it raised the bar even further. There is no better place for someone in my position to be than here. This is beyond my dreams. This is awesome," concluded Comeau.
Key Motorsport placed another driver in the top-6 with Serge Bourdeau (sponsored by Excellence Chrysler), who came home in sixth place.
RDS will broadcast Saturday's Round 1&2 races from Mont-Tremblant on October 22nd.
The Fédération Auto-Québec/Hankook Championship continues with Round 3 & 4, June 21-22, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant.
