Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, CA - It was announced today that CART Champ Car driver, Memo Gidley will return to the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School to be one of the judges at the school's annual Graduate Run-0ffs on Sunday, December 10. Gidley began his successful quest to become a professional racer when he entered the school's Mechanics Training Program. "In 1992, I won the Mechanics Championship with a dream of someday racing in CART," said Gidley. "Now that I'm at this level, it's nice to come back to participate in the Run-Offs with new drivers who may have those same dreams and aspirations."

The Graduate Run-Offs, presented by Champ Car Magazine, is a $40,000 scholarship program to award promising and talented Jim Russell grads with sponsored rides in the 2001 USAC Formula Russell Championship. The top ten drivers from over 70 entrants in this year's event will receive scholarships to race with the best driver winning an entire racing season of 19 free races. The school is offering a new scholarship this year of 8 free races to the winner of the Masters Division - the best driver that is 40 years old or older.

"It's exciting to have so many talented drivers entered in this years Run Offs," said president, Ron Landthorn. "We are very proud to have Memo participating in this year's program and we hope his presence here will be an inspiration to all the competitors."

The Jim Russell Graduate Run-Offs are conducted over four days with the top drivers from each of the first three days moving to the semi-finals on Sunday morning. Drivers advancing to the final ten slots in the afternoon will have to show outstanding speed, consistency and improvement, plus impress the judges with their knowledge of car set-up and motorsports in general during an interview session to win the top prize.

Emerging from Thursday's competition, the following drivers will move to Sunday along with the best drivers from Friday and Saturday evaluations. {T} Craig Burger Kurt Freytag Joseph Ciasca Ali Omoomy - Masters Driver Tony Colicchio Tony Rowe Matt Conrad Danny Wafler - Masters Driver
