The Brazilian has been the best driver in the Free Practice of the World Series hold at the Jarama venue, the second round of the competition

Madrid, 7th June 2002 ? Ricardo Zonta (Gabord Competicion) has been the fastest driver in the World Series category, which has commenced today celebrating its two first free practice sessions at the Jarama Circuit. Zonta has been the fastest ahead of Bas Leinders (KRT) and the current points leader Franck Montagny (Racing Engeenering).

The Jarama circuit is holding the second round of the Telefonica World Series by Nissan, which gathers almost 60 drivers from 15 different countries in a very ambitious program. Three different categories, a unique concept, are presented with the World Series (415 HP), the Formula Nissan 2000 (230 Hp) and the Spanish Formula Junior Championship (114 hp).

Ricardo Zonta has drived very precisely in the Jarama circuit during the two sessions. The first one has been sunny but it has been raining the second one and this has obliged to stop the free practice during a few minutes. Anyway, the Brazilian has been the fastest in both sessions. The Belgium Leinders finished less than 0,4 seconds and Montagny has been replaced to the third position.

In the Formula Nissan 2000 category, Santiago Porteiro (Repsol Meycom) has been the fastest driver (1:29.912) ahead of the current points leader Matteo Bobbi (Vergani Racing) one tenth of a second behind. Both got the victories in the first round in Valencia a month ago. Celso Míguez (Epsilon by Graff) finished third three tenths of a second behind Porteiro. Gelete Nieto and Mathias Lauda, both competing in the Epsilon By Graff Team, have been 6th (+0.791 ) and 8th (+0.975). The difference between the first and the 8th has been less than a second.

Tomorrow, the Telefonica World Series by Nissan will celebrate all the Qualifying sessions.
