Rodolfo Avila faced a "no mercy" weekend
International Formula Master (IFM) ended its inaugural season with an action-packed weekend in Monza. In Italy, Macanese driver Rodolfo Avila saw his Cram Competition clinching the Team Title and his car pushed out of the track twice after two excellent races.
IFM has provided some of the most entertaining single-seater racing of the season.
The slipstream effect at Monza is astounding but Avila couldn't reach one tow properly during the qualifying with the second set of new tyres so he had to start from 20th.
Race 1 saw Avila doing very well until one opponent decided to wipe out his efforts.
"I was doing the perfect race according the planned. When I was 12th Marco Mapelli put me out of the track. He did it on purpose and was penalized by the stewards. Anyway his ten positions penalization for Race 2 - Grid didn't gave me my race position back...", said a very unhappily Avila who returned to the track after replacing a punctured tyre to finish on 23rd.
Race 2 saw The Macau Government, Macau-slot.com, BNU, CESLAsia, PAL AsiaConsult, TsingTao, Fat Siu Lau Restaurant, Sujika Crafts and PT Asia supported driver doing a colossal progression in the classification. But after climbing fifteen positions the Macau SAR was pushed out in the last lap. At the end of an unrelenting 18-lap round, Avila said: "My car was not at 100%; too much vibrations and a lot of understeer. The race was such a big mess with cars overtaking in yellows flags, crashing each other and not respecting the chicanes. I started the race with a lot of cautions and I paid off in a big way. But when I was in 8th, Cecotto hit my rear wheel in Parabolica and I finished in the gravel. It wasn't a nice move as we both lost guaranteed points".
The only reason Avila had to smile in the end of the weekend was the fact his team, Cram Competition, clinched the Team title. "Winning the Team title is extraordinary for everyone in the team. Cram Competition boys really deserved it."
In the end of IFM season Avila makes the balance: "My race season was disappointing. We know we could be fast but we had thousands of technical problems with the car and when the car was cooperating, someone had to crash into me! I'm still positive and I know I'm capable of better results than that. Anyway, I feel we did the right championship chose as we get massive media coverage for our sponsors. IFM season is over and I am totally focus in Macau GP now".
Rodolfo Avila will return to the tracks on the 16/17 October to test HBR Motorsport Dallara F307-Mercedes Benz has part of Macau Grand Prix F3 preparation.
