Trident Racing is glad to announce the agreement reached with 17-year-old Esteban Gutierrez: the Mexican racer will join Harald Schlegelmilch in the penultimate round of the International Formula Master, starting next weekend at Imola. Gutierrez, born August, 1991 in Monterrey, has already be crowned as the 2008 Formula BMW Europe Champion by taking honours on the last weekend`s race at Monza. His score has been impressive this season, as he recorded 353 points by taking 7 wins (in 14 races, a 50% rate), 3 pole positions, 12 podium finishes and 8 fastest laps. Gutierrez made his open-wheel debut in 2007 by taking 4 wins in the Formula BMW USA Series, and ending up as a runner-up in points.
"I`m really excited to have taken the chance and debut in the International Formula Masters this weekend at Imola. It`s a step forward for my career after winning the Formula BMW Eurocup, allowing me to get in touch with one of my potential 2009 destinations. I already know Trident Racing, since the European F.BMW series and the GP2 Main Series were paired in all their rounds, and I can safely say this team has great potential. I`ll be racing at Imola with a lot of curiosity and with the intention to work head down in order to learn a completely new environment, on both a new car and an unknown racetrack".
Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director
"We`re extremely pleased to announce that Trident Racing will enter Esteban Gutierrez in the next round of the International Formula Master at Imola. He proved to be one of the most outstanding talents around by taking the European Formula BMW title. He dominated all-year long showing, in addition to his huge talent, a great personality and a great professional level in interacting with his team. I have to thank Esteban, his father Roberto and all the Gutierrez family for accepting our proposal. We`re sure Esteban will do a great job: he`ll be also enabled to touch with his own hand our technical potential, and our human environment, in order to make his mind and get some hints about his future decisions. Of course, he`ll have to find the right feeling with the series` Tatuus during practice, and we`ll make sure this to be a gradual process with no external pressure. I`m glad Trident Racing will be fielding such a talent, giving even more value to the team and to the whole series. Esteban is set to join Harald Schlegelmilch, who`ll try to score points in an attempt to clinch 2nd place in both the drivers and the team`s standings".
