GEDDIE ENJOYS WALTER HAYES OUTING

Porsche Carrera Cup GB and British GT frontrunner Glynn Geddie made a one-off appearance in a single-seater in the Walter Hayes Trophy at the weekend. Up against some 150 entrants, consisting of mainly experienced Formula Ford racers, the BRDC Rising Star made it to the end of the knock-out format meeting to finish in 17th position in the final.

Geddie put his Graham Brunton Racing entry on the fourth row of the grid for Heat 1 and, despite handling problems with the Ray GR09, he kept with the leading pack to finish in 6th place. The result was more than enough to get him to the semi-finals where he lined up in 17th spot on the grid.

With the semis underway the Apex Tubulars-backed 20 year-old got himself up to P9 before spinning on dropped oil, just before the main straight, at Becketts. Down in 25th Aberdeen's Geddie made good use of the remaining laps to finish in P18, and the last position available that would allow him to take part in the final.

He took the start of the final down in 36th and last on the grid but had taken ten cars by the time the first lap was over. Throughout the race he kept picking off other cars until the chequered flag was dropped after 15 laps and finished in 17th place.

Glynn Geddie: "The Walter Hayes Trophy is a mega event and this year was no exception. We didn't quite get the result we hoped for though and the guys I was fighting with in the semis finished 5th and 6th so we could have been right up the sharp end for the final. But I really enjoyed coming through from the back of the field and the racing was close, but clean, so I've had some great fun and hopefully I'll be back next year."

The Walter Hayes Trophy rounds off Geddie's 2010 racing season and he will fly out to Abu Dhabi to attend the final race on the Formula 1 calendar this weekend.
