Hamilton and Bacheta tied at top

With the 2007 Visma Formula Palmer Audi field proving to be extremely tight, qualifying for round two at Silverstone was as close as it could possibly be, with Matt Hamilton and Luciano Bacheta setting identical times in the fight for pole position.

Both Hamilton and Bacheta set times of 55.328 seconds around the 1.64-mile National circuit, with Hamilton being awarded pole having set the time first. The result means that the 17-year-old will start both of this afternoon's races from the top spot on the grid.

"We thought it was going to be close, but I don't think anyone could have predicted it'd be that close!" said Hertfordshire youngster Hamilton. "I'm happy with my day's work so far, so I'm confident of getting my first win on the board."

Jack Clarke and Stefan Wilson will both line up on row two, reversing their positions from the first qualifying run. Both pushed Hamilton and Bacheta hard, with just six-hundredths of a second splitting the top four. Richard Plant and Jolyon Palmer make up row three, both moving themselves up the grid, with Dominik Jackson and Alex Brundle seventh and eighth.

Jason Moore continued his good form with ninth position, with Andy Demetriou completing the fifth row. Meanwhile, Tim Bridgman suffered once again, and was only able to muster 15th place. <pre> Formula Palmer Audi - Round 2 Grid Positions 1. Matt Hamilton 55.328s 2. Luciano Bacheta 55.328s 3.
