MK star keen to emulate local hero Wheldon

Milton Keynes racing driver Richard Kent is aiming to conquer some of Britain's finest young racing talent this season, after signing up for the Formula Palmer Audi Championship.

Kent, 18, will take on 20 other talented youngsters in identical 300bhp turbocharged single-seaters around the UK, with the season starting at his home track of Silverstone on Easter Saturday. After a successful test at Bedford Autodrome, Richard goes in to the 20-race campaign confident of running at the front of the field.

"The Bedford test went extremely well, so I'm really hopeful that it's going to be a good year for me," said Kent, who will be competing in his first full season of car racing after a successful apprenticeship in karting. "I want to win straight away - especially with the first two races being at my home circuit!"

Richard is keen to follow in the footsteps of local legend Dan Wheldon, who became one of Britain's most successful drivers after winning the IndyCar Series and the famous Indianapolis 500 in 2005. "Dan hails from just a couple of miles away, so I'd really like to follow in his footsteps and maybe win races in America one day."

With the season-opener fast approaching, Kent will be eager to establish himself as a series front-runner at the official pre-season test at Bedford later this month.
