Stefan Wilson clinched second place in this year's Formula Palmer Audi Championship at the weekend with a typically attacking performance at Croft in North Yorkshire. Throughout the season - only his first in single-seater racing - Stefan was never out of the top three in the standings and he was delighted with his final placing.

"It feels great," said Stefan. "To come straight in from karts was a big step up, so at the start of the year I wasn't expecting to be in the hunt for the title. I've been up against some quick, experienced drivers and that makes it even more satisfying. Tim [Bridgman] did a cracking job all year and the pressure was always there from Luciano [Bacheta]."

Stefan scored his first podium finish in round 2 at Silverstone and his first win just two races later at Brands Hatch. Combining speed with consistency, he qualified in the top six for 17 of the 20 races and finished in the top seven in all but two of them. In the season finale at Croft, he bounced back from disappointing grid positions to finish third and fourth in the first two races. Fastest lap (a Croft lap record) in the first race gave him pole position for the final round and he went on to finish second while Bacheta, his nearest challenger, crashed out. His final tally for the season was four wins, five more podium finishes, four pole positions, five fastest laps and two lap records.

Part of Stefan's prize for finishing second in the Championship is a test in a Formula 3 car, a valuable addition to his CV as he aims to follow Justin into a full-time racing career. "I've learned a huge amount in Formula Palmer Audi this year," he said. "I'm looking forward to the F3 test and I'm hoping that this result will help to open a few doors for next year."
