2008 IFM CHAMPION SCORES FIRST GRADUATE PODIUM

2008 International Formula Master (IFM) Champion Chris van der Drift scored his first podium this weekend since graduating from the Series.

The 23-year-old New Zealander, who claimed 17 podiums including eight wins during his two years with IFM, took part in his first World Series by Renault races on Saturday and Sunday, securing a third-place podium in race two.

"This was a great weekend with a nice podium finish to complete it," said van der Drift. "This is really good for the team and to be in third place in the championship after the first weekend is fantastic. It's a fairly different set-up to IFM but both cars run with similar paddle-shift gear systems so it was good not to have to think about that at all."

The Formula Master Champion competed with team Epsilon Euskadi and is set to join them again for rounds three and four in Spa Francorchamps next month.

IFM organisers would like to extend their congratulations to the Red Bull Racing F1 Team on their one-two finish in the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. The team, which is providing this year's top three Formula Master drivers access to their chassis simulator for a day, scored their maiden win in wet conditions with Sebastian Vettel, closely followed by Mark Webber in second position.
