Malaysia's number one Formula 1 aspirant, Alex Yoong who was spotted testing a TVR and a Lotus Elise at the Sepang International Circuit the past two days, was not committal when asked whether he is planning to take part in the Merdeka Millenium Endurance Race scheduled for the eve of Merdeka (independence) day on the 30th of August 2000.

"No, I have no plans as yet. I'm only at the circuit for some fun, away from my hectic race and training schedule. Besides, I'm also helping Lotus to feed back some development possibilities for Lotus Elise." Said Alex.

"The Lotus Elise will be amongst the front runners but will not have all the say. The TVR is also very quick and I think the Porsche will also give both of them a very tough fight." Added Alex who tested both the Lotus Elise and the similarly Malaysian made sports car TVR.

When pressed if any team has offered him a drive, he said, "No, not really. I have an important Formula Nippon race which I would like to do well at the FUJI Speedway just two days after the Merdeka Race. It will be pushing my schedule. But I'm not discounting a possibility of me racing in Sepang again....maybe in this race....for my many supporters and fans who have given me much encouragement."

Alex explained that it will be interesting if the new Sepang Circuit management consider it a benefit for their gates receipts for this race ".......to have me race in Malaysia for the first time after 3 years. If that's useful to the Sepang International Circuit, I will then definitely consider my participation to help out in anyway required. "

Alex's management spokesman said, "In the past, Alex had put in proposals to the Sepang Circuit's previous management in joint promotions. But unfortunately we didn't received a reply. Alex is ever ready to assist our national circuit which is the world's best F1 circuit without a doubt."

It will be a real boost for the local motor sports scene if Alex were to make his re-appearance in the local racing scene. Many fans and supporters of Alex will surely boost gates receipts for the inaugural Merdeka Millenium Endurance to see Alex in action again.
