Simon Wills scored a clean-sweep of victories after dominating the second race of Round 7 of the 2000 Holden Australian Drivers' Championship at a warm and sunny Oran Park this afternoon. Once again Wills made a rapid start and led Tim Leahey and the jostling field into Turn One, thereafter going onto record his 19th Gold Star win and extending his championship lead over Christian Murchison to 30 points.

In front of a crowd of more than 30,000, Murchison came home second and kept his championship chances alive, finishing ahead of Kiwi Matthew Halliday after Leahey fell fowl of an engine problem. Behind the top three, Paul Dumbrell drove well to claim fourth place, with Andy Booth enjoying another good scrap to fill fifth ahead LeRoy Stevenson and Dale Brede.

Steve Owen drove consistently for an eighth place finish, while Ian Peters (overall Silver Star Honours) and Peter Hill rounded out the top ten. Twelve of the thirteen finishers made it to the line, but none could deny Kiwi Wills, who will now go into the final Mallala round in three weeks time as a virtually unbackable favourite.

Murchison, who has now wrapped up the Rookie of The Year title can still win, but he'll need nothing less than two victories and depend on Wills striking misfortune of some nature. The eighth and final round will be held in conjunction with the V8 Lights race during the weekend of August 26 - 27 at Mallala.
