FC MIDTJYLLAND FROM DENMARK COMPLETES 2009 SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA GRID

One of the most exciting clubs in European soccer - FC Midtjylland - is the final addition to the expanded grid contesting this year's Superleague Formula championship. The arrival the ambitious Danish club - as well as multiple French champions Olympique Lyonnais - completes this year's impressive 20-car line-up. The two newcomers line-up alongside V12-powered F1-style single-seater racecars representing all 18 international football clubs that competed in the inaugural SuperLeague Formula race series during 2008.

Since it's formation in 1999 following the unification of two smaller clubs, FC Midtjylland has enjoyed a meteoric rise. In 2000 FC Midtjylland was promoted to the Danish Superliga after amassing a record points total in the 1st Division. Since then the club has twice finished second in the Superliga and already has claimed some notable victories in UEFA Cup. It has also underlined its forward thinking by creating the first Danish Football Academy. Now the groundbreaking club is marking its 10th anniversary by accepting an exciting new challenge by joining the 2009 Superleague Formula grid.

"FC Midtjylland is a very well motivated organisation with an extremely bright future which thoroughly deserves its place among many of the world's premier football clubs when the 2009 Superleague Formula season kicks off in June," says SuperLeague Formula President Alex Andreu. "What's more the addition of our first Danish not only means that we now have clubs from no fewer than 16 nations competing for the 2009 title but also opens up the far-reaching appeal of Superleague to a brand new Scandinavian audience."

Underlining the competitive nature of Superleague Formula, eight soccer clubs (AC Milan, Al-Ain, Beijing Guoan FC, BVB Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC, FC Porto, PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla FC) experienced race victories during what was a dramatic inaugural campaign in 2008 - FC Midtjylland is now hoping to confirm its place in football's hierarchy by adding its name to that illustrious roster.

"Our club badge is the Wolf and that epitomises our mindset - we may not be the biggest be we are not afraid to challenge big goals," says FC Midtjylland President Bo Olesen "In some ways it's an honour for us to be joining such famous clubs on the Superleague entry list but in other ways it typifies our courage and shows just how far this club has come in the last ten years. We have started to compete against these renowned teams in the UEFA Cup and now we are very much looking forward to racing against them on the track. Superleague certainly will take FC Midtjylland into exciting new territories and also offer us a wealth of new commercial opportunities which will ensure the club keeps moving onwards and upwards. As well as giving our fans something new and dramatic to cheer, I'm sure this brilliant new venture will generate widespread support from both motor sport and football fans throughout Scandinavia."

Danish driver Kasper Andersen for FC Midtjylland Superleague Formula entry

Superleague Formula's latest club - FC Midtjylland - has confirmed its driver for the forthcoming 2009 season. The Danish Superliga team's new entry will be raced by local star Kasper Andersen, one of Denmark's most promising young drivers.

The 24-year-old is a former winner of the Formula Renault 2.0 Nordic Championship and no stranger to Superleague Formula having raced for Greek champions Olympiacos in the first four rounds of the 2008 championship.

"As a football club we pride ourselves in our youth development programme - that's why we have created the first Danish Football Academy to encourage young talent. Now we are hoping to help one of our country's brightest motor sport prospects to fulfill his potential," explains FC Midtjylland President Bo Olesen. "We are looking forward to working with Kasper and celebrating some success together. He has already proved his ability to compete and beat some of the world's best drivers and we are confident he will achieve great results on track for FC Midtjylland."

Having already experienced the thrill of racing the V12-powered 750 horsepower single seater Superleague racecar, Andersen is delighted to be returning to the series in 2009 more so as he's racing for a Danish team.

"It's a great honour and very special for me to be representing FC Midtjylland in Superleague Formula," says Kasper. "The club is extremely ambitious and, over the past ten years, has established itself as a major force within Danish football. Its move into Superleague Formula shows just how far the club has come in what's a remarkably short time but, as ever, whether its on the pitch or race track, sport is all about results. Superleague Formula provides a level playing field as we all start with identical cars, so I'm optimistic that FC Midtjylland will be able to establish itself among the major challengers for top honours. On a personal front, I really enjoyed racing these cars last year and can't wait to get back behind the wheel… even more so as I'll be racing for a Danish team in 2009."
