EuroLights -- Europe's First Banked Oval Racing Formula

EuroLights is Europe's first banked oval racing, single-seat formula. In terms of cost and performance it will fit between Formula 3 and Formula 3000, but EuroLights offer the unique opportunity to develop European talent for the IRL and CART American series.

EuroLights cars will utilise the Lola B255 chassis and a 450bhp, V6 engine prepared by Langford Performance Engineering. The car's underbody, rear diffuser, wings and sidepods are specially designed to optimise oval race aerodynamic performance, drawing on Lola's successful CART racing experience. Average lap speeds of over 160mph are predicted.

The car is purpose-designed for the continuous stresses and high speeds of banked oval racing and incorporates the latest safety technology. The carbon-aluminium monocoque is constructed in 'one-piece' for maximum integrity around the driver and complies with the FIA F1 safety requirements.

The new car is expected to run for the first time in May, with an intensive test programme in June, July and August. An announcement will be made in September on the new series, which is set to race on the European ovals at Rockingham in England and at EuroSpeedway in Germany.

Specification:

Chassis: Lola B255. Carbon-aluminium honeycomb composite monocoque with aerodynamics developed during Lola's CART programme.

Engine: 450-bhp, V6 engine prepared by Langford Performance Engineering

Suspension: Independent with unequal length, aero profile, steel upper and lower wishbones, with anti-intrusion link at front.

Top Speed: Circa 170mph.
