2006 UK Formula Ford Champion, Nathan Freke has been named in the 6 Finalists for the most prestigious award in British Motorsport -- The Autosport, Mclaren, BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. Nomination for the award is open to any single seat racer competing below Championship Formula 3 level and previous winners include Jenson Button, David Couldthard, Anthony Davidson in recent years. The six finalists are chosen by a panel of judges including former F1 drivers Damon Hill, Martin Brundle, Jonathon Palmer from all of the nominations and are those drivers who have been outstanding in their racing in 2006. As UK Formula Ford Champion Nathan would have been top of the list. Having been selected in the final six the eventual winner is chosen after driving 3 types of unfamiliar race cars at Snetterton and undergoing an intensive interview with the judges at the McLaren race HQ all filmed by ITV. The prize for winning is a test in a Mclaren F1 car, a GP2 car, £50,000 and lifetime membership of the British Racing Drivers Club, which is by invitation only. The winner is announced at the Motorsports awards dinner in Park Lane London 3rd December.
'To be in the final six for this award is amazing, and I now have to do my utmost to win, all of the other finalists have far ore car experience than me but I will do my best as to win will propel me into the highest levels of motorsport with very high publicity. I am looking forward to driving the 3 cars, a World Series Renault single seater just below F1 performance level, a Porsche Cup Car, and a Mercedes DTM Sports car -- it will be the experience of a lifetime.' said Nathan.
In addition Nathan has also been nominated for the Autosport Club Driver of the year award which is voted for by the Autosport readers for his 2006 performances in the UK Formula Ford Championship.
