SCOTLAND'S KNOCKHILL THE LATEST CHALLENGE FOR NEWGARDEN IN BRITISH FORMULA FORD
Joe Tandy Racing rookie looking to add two wins to his racing resume
DUNFERMLINE, SCOTLAND (June 10, 2009) -- Junior formula car standout Josef Newgarden will travel to Scotland for the first time this weekend (June 13-14) to take part in Rounds Seven, Eight and Nine of the highly-competitive MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. For the talented American, the tripleheader at the Knockhill Racing Circuit will present yet another opportunity to steer his Joe Tandy Racing car into victory lane, as well as to build on his current fourth place ranking in the championship standings.
The third event of the 2009 British Formula Ford series will mark the lone stop "North of the Border" for the drivers and teams. Like many of the tracks that the championship will visit, the tripleheader at Knockhill will mark the first-ever visit to the 1.2713-mile road course by Newgarden. The talented American has already shown he is a quick learner, regularly posting times among the leaders within a session. In the opening two events of the series, at Oulton Park Circuit and Rockingham Motor Speedway, the 18 year-old translated this pace into his first two Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain wins. With the goal of not only winning the series title, but also honoring the passing of team owner Joe Tandy, it is expected the No. 21 Robo-Pong/Racer of Tomorrow Ltd/Joe Tandy Racing Mygale SJ08 Premier Power car will be one of the cars to watch in Scotland.
"I'm looking forward to racing in Scotland for the first time," stated Newgarden. "The goal is to continue building on our early season momentum and score some more victories. I know the JTR guys will give me a great car, so I'm sure we will be in the hunt for top honors right from the get go."
On-track activities for Newgarden and the Joe Tandy Racing team gets underway on Thursday (June 11) via private testing at the Knockhill Racing Circuit. One day later, MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain practice sessions will take place. Saturday (June 13) will feature the lone qualifying session, followed by race one of the tripleheader. Rounds Eight and Nine will take place on Sunday (June 14).
