Oulton Park: D'Agostino tries hard and comes away with another Top 5

Oulton Park, England -- Joe D'Agostino and Team JLR competed in the 11th and 12th Rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship this past weekend, 18-19 July, at the Oulton Park International circuit in Cheshire.

The young American had been very quick throughout all of the testing and practice sessions and ended the day 2nd quickest overall. In Qualifying weather conditions were tricky as always and just before the start of the session it began to rain. After spending the early parts of the session in the pit-lane making minor setup adjustments, D'Agostino quickly adapted to the conditions and qualified 9th position for Race 1 and 5th position for Race 2.

Race 1 and off the line D'Agostino was on a charge leaping from 9th to 5th in the first corner, after which a tough race long battle with Suk Sandher ensued. With 2 laps to go D'Agostino tried to take 4th position after Sandher made an error but would be forced wide and off the track dropping back and eventually finishing 9th.

For Race 2 the weather conditions again would be factor as just as the cars were released onto the circuit with slicks as it began to rain. D'Agostino for the second time made a great start off the line this time going from 5th to 3rd before the first corner, with conditions being quite damp D'Agostino was hit from behind and sent spinning off. After rejoining in 9th and a brief safety car period the American would begin to carve his way through the field setting fastest race lap in class along the way. As D'Agostino was about to make a challenge for 4th and 3rd positions the race was cut short and red flagged leaving D'Agostino in 5th place.

"I think that my results this weekend did not reflect the true pace that we had, but sometimes that is the way it goes. All in all I think it was a good weekend for us, I was quite pleased that we got a decent result in the second race, especially after the pile-up I was involved in at turn 1. I feel like we are getting back to where we should be and am looking forward to our next race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit."

D'Agostino has moved up one position to 5th in the overall Championship Class and has also closed the gap to 16 points for the lead in the Scholarship Class remaining in 2nd position. The 13th and 14th Rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship will be held on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit 14th-15th August.

D'Agostino would like to thank Team JLR and all of his sponsors: Arai Helmets, Skip Barber Racing School, Sparco, The Mayes Group, and all of his personal sponsors.
