10 December 2004 - I had my first ever run in the Formula 500 at Premier Speedway (Warrnambool, Australia) last Saturday night and all I can say is that these things are simply awesome to drive!

After being strapped into the confined space of the F500, I rolled up to the out grid where we lined up in grid positions. For heat one I started out of 7th but quickly got shuffled back to 9th on the start. I then managed to get to 5th place before greeting the chequered flag. (I need to work on changing gears a lot quicker).

While lining up for the 2nd heat we discovered we had blown a hole in the brake line, so we quickly raced back to the pits in an attempt to repair the problem. Unfortunately the problem was more severe forcing me to drop that race.

After the misfortune of missing the second heat I was forced to start from 15th on the grid out of the 24 entries. One lap into the race and the red flag was brought out after 2 cars made contact causing one car to roll. After the restart I started my charge towards the front reaching 8th position before a yellow flag was brought out. By lap 16 I had moved up to 6th position before Kelvin Johnston came down in front of me coming off turn four and I just ran over his right rear tyre. I'm not sure if Kelvin seized an engine or something broke on his car because he just appeared to come out of no where when I hit him.

After surveying the damage it appeared we had suffered a bent front axle and a radius rod. Beside the slight problem with the brakes the car and engine were just perfect. The car felt really good all night, and I am very pleased with the results that the team achieved, apart from the racing incident in the final!

I definitely exceeded my expectations on the night after aiming to get into the top 15 maybe even the top 10, but to reach 6th place before the race incident was fantastic!

After a positive start where we showed plenty of speed, I really feel a lot more confident going into the next race meeting at Avalon on the 30th of December.
