Kevin Probst WOWS 'em in Round 4
New Lenox, IL (June 26, 2007) - Probst Motorsports was looking to build on the solid finishes that both the PRO-2WD and PRO-Light programs had last month in Owatonna, Minnesota. The team had tested at Crandon International Raceway earlier in the month, which really helped with the suspension setup as the team now uses Fox Shox. Kevin, Jon, and George were anxious to compete at World Championship track.
Round Three saw Jon Probst at the wheel of the #5 Simply WOW Toyo Tires Nissan Frontier. The landrush start saw Jon come out of Turn One battling for a top-10 position. Suddenly on lap four the Nissan Frontier lost significant power and finished the 9-lap race in 12th place.
Kevin Probst and his #99 Simply WOW Toyo Tires Chevrolet Silverado were looking to build upon the two podium finishes from the opening WSORR weekend in Minnesota.
The start saw Kevin in the third spot coming through Potawatomi Turn One. Then the #99 spun coming out of the Argonne Corner. Suddenly the entire the entire PRO-2WD was now well ahead of the #99 Chevy Silverado. Kevin quickly gathered up the Simple WOW Chevy and began a hard charge through field. At the finish, Kevin crossed the line in fourth place.
Afterwards Jon and Kevin Probst commented on their races with BUMPRACER.COM
Jon Probst: "We hurt the bottom end of the motor today. Without a spare this weekend, our weekend is over. We know what caused the problem and we will be ready for Bark River."
Kevin Probst: "I had a pretty good start, but then went into the Argonne Corner too hot and spun. My spotter really got me pumped up and we started passing trucks. The Pro Power horsepower worked well with the Toyo tires. We have to make a small change with the brake balance, but other than that it just the usual between race maintenance. Tomorrow, I think we will have something for the guys that finished in front of us."
Kevin grabbed the holeshot with #8 Taylor right on his bumper. At the end of lap one Taylor squeezed by for the lead. Kevin and his #99 Simply WOW Toyo Tires Chevy Silverado kept the pressure on Taylor. Then on lap five, Taylor pulled off and the #99 powered into the lead. After ten hard laps, Kevin Took the win with #80 Oberg in second, and #77 Vandenhuvel in third.
"Taylor got by me, but we kept the pressure on, and it paid off," explained Kevin Probst. "It has been over a year since out last win. This feels great. The Toyo Tires worked great today. The Pro Power engine was awesome, our Fox Shox, which are new for us in '07, are really making a difference. Again thanks to my crew."
Forest County Potawatomi Chairman's Cup
The start saw Kevin put the Pro Power horsepower to the Toyo Tires and grabbed the lead. Quickly the #99 Simply WOW Chevy opened up a substantial lead, as the other two-wheel drive trucks were battling for second place. Suddenly the day came to an end as a rock got into the engine pulleys and dislodged a drive belt. Immediately Kevin shut the truck down to prevent catastrophic damage to the engine.
"I really had a good run going," stated Kevin Probst. "My spotter didn't tell the size of the lead we had, until I pulled over. All in all, the truck is in good shape, we just have to pull the pan on the motor and check the bearings. We've had two solid weekends in a row. Our team's confidence was soaring after the Round 4 win. Thanks to my family and crew that help us at track and back at the shop. I also want to thank the folks from Simply WOW that came out to support us this weekend. Don't forget about our PRO-Light program, Jon and George will have the motor issue fixed and look for both of them to have solid Runs in Bark River."
Next Race -- July 14-15, the Boss Snow Plow Challenge, Bark River, MI.
Currently Kevin Probst is in third place for the 2007 WSORR PRO-Light Championship.
