Greaves wins Potawatomi Governors Cup
CRANDON, Wis. (June 23, 2003) - Three-time defending Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) Pro-Lite division champion Jeff Kincaid swept both rounds of the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run this weekend in Crandon, Wis. Teammate and defending Pro-4 champion Johnny Greaves won the 10th Annual Potawatomi Governors Cup and held on to his points lead in the Pro-4 class.
Kincaid, from nearby Argonne, Wis., won both races at his home track of Crandon and took a four point lead in the championship. It was his third win in a row and his fourth top-two finish in five races this season behind the wheel of the Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tacoma. Kincaid has 26 career CORR victories (third all time) and 11 have taken place on the 1.75-mile Crandon track, known for its thrilling "land rush" starts with all trucks side-by-side at the green flag.
Each year, the Crandon International Off Road Raceway features a 10-lap, non-points competition between the Pro-4, Pro-2 and Sportsman 2 full-size trucks on the same course. Greaves took the lead on the last lap of the Potawatomi Governors Cup with a daring pass with two turns to go in his Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tundra 4x4. A right-rear tire problem dropped him to third in Saturday's Round 5 race, and he was taken out of contention for a victory in Round 6 when another competitor ran Greaves off the course at the start. With top-five finishes in all five races this season, including two wins to start the year, Greaves has a five-point lead in the championship.
2001 CORR rookie of the year Steve Federico had a strong weekend in his Ingles/Mountain Dew Toyota Tacoma with two top-five finishes in the Pro-Lite class, moving him up to sixth place in the championship. BOSS Snowplow/Lucas Oil Toyota Tacoma pilot Chad Hord, who earned two fifth-place finishes at Crandon, is third overall this season after earning five straight top-five finishes to begin the year.
