Scott Taylor clinched the 2003 CORR Pro-2 championship here this weekend, making it his fifth straight title in the Championship Off Road Racing Series. Even with 2 more rounds of racing left nobody can touch the awesome power of Scott Taylor's Mobil 1, BFGoodrich Ford F-150.
Saturday, Scott started from the eighth position in the "famous" land rush start. Coming out of the Potowatomi Turn One, Scott was in second place right on the bumper of Kevin Probst. When Probst went wide in the CellCom Corner, Scott quickly dove on the inside and made a clean pass for the lead.
On the second lap Scott was experiencing some bad luck with a right rear tire going flat, but made the decision to stay out on the track. With the Championship winding down, maintaining a top 5 finish was the main priority. As the laps went by, Scott continued to stay near the front; eventually the Mobil 1 BFGoodrich Ford F-150 finished a very respectable 3rd place. This was quite an accomplishment considering Scott finished on three tires!
Sunday, Scott came out of the Potowatomi Turn One in second place. By lap two, Scott passed the leader, and quickly began to build a healthy lead. Suddenly, bad luck struck again. Just past the halfway point of the race, the power steering went out. Scott muscled the Mobil 1 BFGoodrich Ford F-150 to the finish line with another 3rd place finish. The weekend's consistent finishes and the never give-up attitude of Scott Taylor and his entire crew, enabled the team to clinch the Pro-2 Championship before the season ending rounds in New York.
Borg Warner World Championship
With Scott, the 2002 winner, being the second fastest two-wheel drive, started in second position for the Borg Warner World Championship race.
As the green flag dropped Taylor was side by side with Evan Evans and came out of the first turn in first place. The second lap Taylor was 5 seconds ahead of the first 4x4 of Curt Leduc. By the sixth lap the battle was on. Suddenly the 4x4s of Curt Leduc and Carl Renezeder were right on Scott's rear bumper. Scott continued to hold off the charge until lap 8 when Renezeder made the pass for the lead.
On the white flag lap, Leduc made the pass for second, but Taylor was bound and determined to keep fighting. As Leduc and Scott came out of the CellCom Corner, Scott made an awesome outside, inside move to shoot past LeDuc. As the pass was made, hard contact caused Scott's right rear tire and wheel assembly to break away from the rear axle. The race finished with Scott in 3rd place overall and the 1st two wheel drive to finish.
Scott Taylor afterwards, "I gave it my all, This Mobil 1 BFGoodrich Ford F-150 is just awesome. We got 3 thirds all weekend but we came here to do what we needed to do. We won another championship and proved to them all that this Mobil 1 BFGoodrich Ford F-150 4x2 can run with the 4x4s. This is definitely one tough truck!"
