Going for The Points
By Nancy Schilke - Motorsport.com
Saturday, August 11 -- Scott Taylor (Ford) had a large point lead over Evan Evans (Chevy), Carl Renezeder (Chevy), Rookie driver Larry Gourlie (Chevy) and Dan Vanden Huevel )Chevy) going into round 11 of the CORR Exxon SuperFlo Championship Pro 2 Series at Bark River Raceway. It was not a surprise to see seven drivers charge for the lead at the start. However, turn one is a tight right-hander and all it took was one of them (Gourlie) to spin behind Evans and Kevin Prost (Chevy) to set the stage. Taylor, Renezeder, and Vanden Huevel picked their way around to set up chasing the two leaders.
Evans did not waste anytime "going for the points" by stretching his lead within the first two laps. Prost and Taylor had a battle for second place until Probst made a mistake and went very wide through the right-hand sweeper coming off the hill. Taylor didn't waste any time going around and took the position. Top five after first five laps were Evans, Taylor, Probst, Renezeder and Vanden Huevel where they played "catch-the-person-in-front-of-me" style of driving for several of the remaining laps (races are time not laps). This meant the fans enjoyed the all-out -- try one line or another and go into a turn as hard as possible -- style of off-road driving in order to make up positions. Unfortuanately, Probst had to park off the track in a safe location at the midway point of the race.
The door was wide open for Evans even with Taylor doing everything he could to catch him. Too little time remained and Evans pulled off the victory.
"This was a great race, I love the fans and Bark River has been very good to me this year", said Evans after the win. Earlier this season, Evans won round eight of the championship here at Bark River.
