Rick Huseman Racing Doubles Up With Two Top Five Finishes in 2008 CORR Series Opener
Riverside, CALIFORNIA -- For more than a decade, Rick Huseman and his extended family have been a huge part of off road racing. This past Saturday, April 26, 2008, Rick was part of history as he raced in the first ever "live" televised off road race at the LA Fairplex -- Pomona.
Broadcasted live on SPEED TV, the #36 FABTECH Pro 4 started the first race of the year in the second row after a solid qualifying run, averaging 51.873 mph around the .74 mile off road closed race course. Fourteen trucks took the green flag as the 2008 CORR Season kicked off in front of thousands of fans in the stands, along with a nationwide television audience.
Facing the nation's top drivers, Huseman battled door-to-door with the likes of Renezeder, Greaves, Douglas and LeDuc have faced off against each other for many seasons and this year's opener was no different.
Huseman commented, "We were pretty good in qualifying and felt good headed into the first race of the season. Our FABTECH truck with Toyo Tires has been great in early season testing and after qualifying we made some minor adjustments and prepared to charge hard. I started in the second row behind some familiar faces and guys I've been racing against for a lot of years. It was good to get the season underway. CORR has taken our sport to the next level with the live television broadcast and the corporate sponsors involved in the sport along with thousands of fans here in the stands. Who would have ever thought off road racing would reach this level?"
The short LA Fairplex-Pomona race track offered a variety of terrain, which also included a long stretch of asphalt that allowed the nation's top tire manufactures the opportunity to showcase their products.
"Toyo Tires has provided us with an incredible product and this race was no exception. They gave us a compound that hooked up better than ever on both the asphalt and dirt. Toyo Tires has a long history in high performance pavement racing and they continue to be very strong partners with Rick Huseman Racing," explained Rick.
Saturday's opening Round One saw the RHR #36 run hard for 17:15:593 total time to finish in fourth position among a full field of Pro 4 racers. Finishing just outside the podium position, Rick and his brothers headed back to the race hauler and made a few slight adjustments in time for them to get a good night's sleep and head into Sunday's Round Two qualifying with a fresh look.
The persistence of the crew definitely paid off as they set the fastest time at the track with a time of 48.427 averaging 55.001 miles per hour. Huseman was the only racer to break the 55 mile per hour barrier in the final qualifying run of the weekend.
"We got into a fast groove and Toyota TRD gave us a well-prepared engine package. The crew made some slight adjustments late Saturday after the first race and well, it just all came together for the qualifier. I am very happy to put it all together this early in the season," said a smiling Huseman.
With Southern California temperatures scorching well into triple digits, Rick wasted no time and jumped out to the front of the pack as soon as the flag dropped. He never looked back and pushed the blue FABTECH / Toyo Tires Pro 4 through the corners, as well as flying the #36 over the top of the massive table top as top speed.
"Coming off that long sweeping asphalt turn and accelerating my TRD power-plant towards the table top jump was key for our FABTECH Dirt Logic race shock package. With confidence, I was able to let it all hang out and run as hard as I could in search of the victory.
"I am disappointed with the final few turns of the race as Carl Renezeder pushed hard and we swapped spots several different times just before the finish line. We'll be back with some additional adjustments for the next race at the Las Vegas -- Primm course in a few weeks.
"I really want to thank all our of sponsors, partners, family, friends and of course the crew who worked tirelessly before and during this race weekend. We ended up finishing in the top five during the first two rounds of this season's opening weekend and I'm very pleased with that," said Huseman.
Rick Huseman Racing finished the weekend with 180 total points, placing him in second position overall in the hunt for the 2008 CORR Season Championship.
Rick Huseman Racing heads to the Las Vegas International Raceway at Primm, Nevada on May 17-18, 2008 for CORR Rounds 3 & 4.
