Huseman Claims 2nd in Championship Off Road Racing Round 9; Unfortunate Racing Incident Leads to Black Flag During LA FAIRPLEX Pomona Round 10
Pomona, California - Rick Huseman kicked off Saturday's Round 9 racing extravaganza with a tremendous performance that put the No. 3 FABTECH/Toyo Tires/Toyota TRD/Monster Energy Pro 4 on the podium in second spot. Racing at a track that is located only 15 minutes from the Rick Huseman Racing motorsports race shop, the veteran off road racer dazzled the LA Fairplex-Pomona crowds that reached over 15,000 fans throughout the weekend.
The CORR track at Los Angeles Fairplex-Pomona Raceway is a .72-mile purpose-built race course, featuring the absolute biggest rhythm section bumps in all off Championship Off Road Racing. The stadium boasts a near perfect view of the track from the grandstands, affording the fans a very up close and personal look at racers as they fly around the dirt at top speeds.
Huseman dominated the majority of the field in the 18 lap race battling against Kyle and Curt Leduc, the father son duo that sandwiched Huseman on the podium. Huseman finished Round 9 in 19:12:519 approximately four seconds out of the top spot.
"It was a great race and our No. 3 FABTECH/Toyo Tires/Toyota TRD/Monster Energy Pro 4 ran perfect. This LA Pomona track is one of my favorite places to race as we always seem to run well here. The bumps heading into the final turn were about the biggest we've seen this season and our FABTECH Dirt Logic suspension performed perfectly. Our Toyo Tires definitely out performed the competition throughout the entire weekend of racing, providing the maximum hookup for trucks racing with Toyo Tires. Toyota TRD gave us a great power and the truck really ran solid," said Huseman.
Sunday's Round 10 started off very well for RHR as the No.3 Pro 4 jumped to the front of the pack early after weaving his magic through the field of 15 and stayed clean of the early race fracus. The Monster Energy supported racer continued to push hard and eventually fought his way to an early lead.
Huseman led the race until after the competition yellow flag was waved at lap 8 of the 16 lap race. As the field gathered up behind the Monster Energy race leader, the green flag dropped, signaling the high speed start down the front stretch as the racers banged doors against each other at speeds reaching nearly 100 miles an hour.
With Carl Renezeder tight on his bumper, Huseman gained ground pulling away from Renezeder by several truck lengths. Renezeder chased down Huseman and as they exited the deep bowl, the racers were nearly side-by-side with Renezeder gaining the edge arriving to the final turn first. Huseman charged his FABTECH/Toyo Tires/Toyota TRD/Monster Energy Pro 4 and took an inside position as Renezeder slid into his turn. Traveling at high speed blasting over the top of the rhythm section, Huseman came into contact with the left rear quarter panel of Renezeder's truck causing him to spin around in the final turn. CORR officials immediately black flagged Huseman forcing him to the hot pits and the back of the pack.
Rick explained,"It was an unfortunate racing incident and I certainly didn't want that to happen, but it's part of CORR racing. We're racing for the series championship and our weekend race plans did not include penalties that would affect the outcome of the race. Each and every round of racing is very important to us and this incident with Carl was unlucky and although we were penalized with the black flag, we will continue to race hard throughout the season in hopes of capturing the series Pro 4 championship."
The No. 3 FABTECH/Toyo Tires/Toyota TRD/Monster Energy Pro 4 still claimed a top ten finish in Round 10 taking the 7th position overall in the elite Pro 4 ranks. Rick Huseman Racing is also only 16 points out of first place in the overall series Pro 4 race for the championship in a solid third place.
