Mike Savage Runs Strong At Lake Odessa
Mike Savage and his #267 CORR Sportsman-2 Savage Construction Kumho Tire Ford F-150 came to 1-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan looking for two solid finishes. The end results were that and more.
The newly constructed off-road track consisted of several high-speed jumps; a couple of banked turns, and a rhythm section that really challenged the drivers.
The weather was perfect, and the track was in great shape. Due to a mix-up. Mike lined up last in the field of twelve. At the green flag, the start was fairly congested with Mike scraping the stock car track's concrete wall. Coming out the first turn, the #267 Savage Construction Kumho Tire F-150 was in last place. As the race went on, Mike cleanly worked his way through traffic and finished a very spectacle 3rd place.
Early morning rain made the track a mess. By the time Sportsman-2 came to the line. The main groove was dry and very tacky. Once you got out of the main groove, the track was still very muddy, and wet. At the start Mike was mid pack and looked forward to a better start. Coming out of the first turn Mike found himself in 7th place with 2004 champion Dan Baudoux right behind. The two of them both had problems with seeing with all the mud flying around. With two laps to go, Mike had made to 4th place, when Baudoux passed him coming out of the infield corner. On the last lap leader Russ Hoek
"We had two completely different track conditions this weekend, and the team pulled together to keep the truck running great. Sportsman-2 is highly competitive as more than half the field has corporate sponsorship, for us to finish on the podium both rounds says a lot about my team,"" -- Mike Savage.
After two rounds of racing, Mike Savage is in 3rd place overall for the 2005 Lucas Oil Sportsman 2 CORR Championship.
