The CORR Lucas Oil Series will be the 'major show' for the 26th annual Memorial Day 4 x4 off-road event in Dresser, Wisconsin.
Avon, Ind. (October 31, 2002)-Championship Off Road Racing officials announced today that the CORR Lucas Oil Series signed a two-year agreement with the Memorial 4x4 event in Dresser, Wisconsin. The annual event is held at the Trollhaugen Ski Area in Dresser, Wisconsin, located approximately 45 minutes north east of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The dates for the 2003 event are May 24-26.
"It is great to welcome a new member to the CORR family," said CORR President Marty Reid. "The Minneapolis market opens new opportunities for our sponsors and drivers. The organizational team has been running off- road events for two decades, and this was a natural fit for the CORR Lucas Oil Series."
The format for the 2003 Dresser race will be different than what the CORR Lucas Oil Series drivers are accustomed to during an event weekend. To accommodate the fans at the Memorial 2003 event, the CORR drivers will have a practice session on Saturday, May 24. The first round of the 2003 CORR Lucas Oil Series race season will be on Sunday, May 25, and Round 2 will be held on Memorial Day, Monday May 26.
"The best crowds for the annual event are on Sunday and Monday, and in 2003, CORR will be the main attraction," said Mike Sullivan, Chairman of the Memorial 2003 Event.
"This is going to take us to a new level of professional racing. We're really excited about that," said Sullivan. "I think CORR will bring more exciting racing and more action than what we've had in the past," he said.
During the Memorial Day weekend event, there will be approximately 1,000 4x4 trail riders at the facility to add to the off-road festivities. The event will staff approximately 200 volunteers for the weekend, said Race Director Rick Oehme.
With Dresser agreeing to host the CORR Lucas Oil Series, the 2003 CORR race schedule is complete. Dresser, Wisconsin will open the season May 24-26. Antigo, Crandon, and Bark River, three mainstays of the CORR Lucas Oil Series, will host five event weekends of the CORR Lucas Oil Pro and Sportsman Series. The Pro Series will conclude at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, New York on September 13-14.
