Scott Taylor continues his quest for an unprecedented fourth straight CORR Pro-2 title at the UP Off-Road 100 presented by the Island Resort & Casino/Bark River Lions Club.
August 10-11, 2002 - Bark River, MI
After more than a month off, Championship Off-Road Racing returned to Bark River, Michigan for the UP Off-Road 100 presented by the Island Resort and Casino and the Bark River Lions Club.
Scott Taylor and his Pro-2 Mobil 1, BF Goodrich, Ford F-150 were ready to battle the best in his quest for a fourth straight championship.
After Friday's first practice session, Scott's truck lost the power steering belt. Quickly, crew chief Jeff Frana and the rest of the crew corrected the problem, and Scott waited his turn at the Rancho Suspension long jump contest.
Rancho Suspension Long Jump Contest
Scott was the last contestant, and the jump was worth the wait. Taylor's jump of 191 feet tied Jason Baldwin's Ford F-150 Pro-4 truck for a new record. Once again, Scott proves again that 2WD trucks can compete with the 4wd trucks. Scott can now fly in both his Lancair airplane and his Ford F150. Taylor commented " WOW that was awesome."
After Saturday morning practice, Scott and the crew are confident. Scott started the downhill land rush start in the 8th position, a tough spot to get a clean line for the first right hand turn.
When the flag dropped, Evan Evans and Kevin Probst bumped and rubbed each other enough to give Scott a clean shot to the first turn and into the lead. Scott led wire to wire, with a hard charging Evan Evans finishing second. After the win, Scott commented how well the BF Goodrich tires really kept the Roush prepared engine completely hooked up.
Again the land rush start is very critical at Bark River. In this round, Scott found himself in 4th place after the first turn. Kevin Probst was right in his bumper, and on lap 2, Probst made a pass which caused Scott's truck to spin. Quickly, Scott gathered up the truck and stayed in the hunt. By lap 4 Scott passed two more competitors and challenged Probst for 3rd place.
At the end of the lap Scott won the drag race to the start/finish line and took aim at the 2nd place truck of Vandenhuvel. By the lap7 Scott made an aggressive move and passed Vandenhuevel on a jump , then took the low line through the next corner to make the pass stick. When the white flag came out Scott and his Mobil1, BF Goodrich Tires Ford F-150 ran out of time to run down the leader and finished in 2nd place behind winner Evan Evans.
After 12 of 14 rounds of racing, Scott Taylor is in 1st place 5 points ahead of second place Evan Evans.
Again Taylor Racing thanks all its sponsors - Mobil 1, BF Goodrich Tires, Ford, Auto-Meter, Automatic Transmission Designs, Boatec, Justice Brothers, K & N, MSD Ignition, Phil's Inc., PSI Performance, Precision Gear, Roush Performance, and Ringers Gloves.
