2002 Kumho Tire Rookie Of The Year awards announced.

Avon, Ind. (October 16, 2002)--In the 2002 CORR Lucas Oil Series, 16 drivers entered the season as rookies; six in the Pro Divisions and 10 in the Sportsman Divisions. Josh Baldwin (Pro-4) and Rod Wells (Stock) earned the Kumho Tire Rookie of the Year honors in the fifth anniversary season of Championship Off Road Racing.

Baldwin, who is the brother and teammate of Pro-4 driver Jason Baldwin, brought with him a lot of desert racing experience to CORR. Competing in CORR's toughest division, Baldwin had 14 starts, finishing in the top-five 8 times. His best finish was second-place in Round 11 (Bark River), a race in which Jason finished first. Josh Baldwin finished 6th in the final Pro-4 point standings. It was a great start to his Championship Off Road Racing career, considering the five drivers in front of him have 51 career series wins.

Stock Rookie Rod Wells entered his first Championship Off Road Racing season competing in one of the most competitive divisions in the Sportsman Series. Wells became the second Stock driver to be named as the Rookie of the year in CORR. Mark Kleiman, the 2001 and 2002 Stock champion, won the Kumho Tire Rookie of the Year honor while competing in the same division in 2000. Wells had nine starts in the 2002 CORR Lucas Oil Series, finishing in the top-ten each time. His best finish was 4th, in Round 12 at Crandon.

For the second year, Kumho Tires sponsored the Championship Off Road Racing Rookie of the Year program. In 2001, Steve Federico (Pro-Lite) and Scott Peterson (Super Buggy) won the first Kumho Tire Rookie of the Year awards.
