Western Motorsports wasted no time setting the tone for their level of performance inParker 425 Protruck Mason Moffatt 2010. They kicked off the season with a 2nd place finish in the #1265 Eleven Western Builders Protruck Ford at the Blue Water Resorts and Casino Parker 425 in Parker, Arizona. The day began with Dave Mason behind the wheel along with co-driver Rob Fox. Mason maintained a fast but somewhat conservative pace for the first half of the race. Despite one flat tire the Mason/Fox pair turned the truck over to driver Rick Backus and co-driver Mark Moffatt at the halfway point in a solid position. Down to the leader by 8-minutes Rick Backus drove flawlessly clicking off time gaining on the race leader, Troy Vest. The final 20 miles was a nose to tail battle for the win. In the end Backus would cross the finish line a very close 2nd place.

"Everyone had fun and that was first on our list heading into this year," expressed Backus. "Our plan was to start out conservative and be contending for the win in the end. We did just that. Dave [Mason] brought the truck to me in good shape and from there we picked up the pace and took time away from Vest. It was a lot of fun battling for the win those last 20-miles. It was kind of anyone's race at that point and [Troy] Vest just barely got us. I'm proud of our team and how we did overall."

7265 Truck Leading Race until Mechanical Issue Ends Race Early

Parker 425 7265 Truck The debut of the #7265 Eleven Western Builders Chevy was bitter sweet. Sean Backus kicked off the driving duties for the team and despite some wheel trouble early in the race he had placed the truck well inside the top five at the halfway point. Sean wasn't scheduled to drive due to a previous off-track injury, but a little pain wasn't enough to hold him back from the historic Parker 425 off road race event. Sean turned the truck over to brother Brett Backus, who impressively drove to the lead position. Through some attrition of other race vehicles the #7265 team had a very strong lead and appeared to be on their way to winning the first race of 2010. But at mile 115 the transmission failed and ended their day early.

"It was pretty disappointing to have such a strong lead and then have it all over due to a mechanical issue," said Brett Backus. "Sean did a great job getting the truck up front. We took over and once in the lead were running somewhat conservatively knowing we had such a good amount of time over the field. These guys at Western Motorsports do an excellent job of preparing the trucks. It was just one of those unfortunate finishes. The good part is that we know we can win. We have the truck, the crew and all the components to be a winning team. I'm really looking forward to the next race."

The next race for the #1265 Protruck and #7265 Truck will be the Best in the Desert's Bilek Racing Silver State 300 April 23rd-25th near Las Vegas, Nevada. Stay tuned to www.WesternMotorsports.org for all the latest news and results.
