This year has had its share of ups and downs for TEAM MARGARITA. Racing a nine race series with Valley off Road Racing Association and a four race series with Best in the desert, including the Nevada 2000 has proven to be a challenge for the team. Sam Berri Racing is based out of Murphys, Ca. and is crewed by members from Reno, Nv. and the area around Sonora, Ca.
Even with the logistics and coordination required to keep the car in top-notch shape and get the diversified team to the races, Team Margarita has once again risen to the top. The VORRA events began with a two race short course series at Prairie City just outside Folsom, Ca where Sam finished first and second. Next was the Best in the Desert Terribles Town 250 in Pharump, Nv. where we finished fourth in class and tenth overall after being "NURFTD" in the first 20 miles of the race resulting in some severe frame damage. May found us at the BITD Tonopah 300 with not only a first place in class but also first place overall for the event.
With only one week between races, Sam was again victorious in class and overall in the VORRA Yerrington 400. At the VORRA, Lovelock 250 we were not so lucky. After leading the race by better than 23 minutes, an engine failure gave us a third place finish. Then TEAM MARGARITA was off to the BITD NEVADA 2000. Day one found us in the Valley of fire changing a transmission with a DNF for the day, Days two and three were flawless and Sam moved up to the 15th starting position for day four. A broken spindle and "A" arm end the day with a DNF. After a long night of repairs, we finished the NEVADA 2000 ninth in class.
VORRA's TOP GUN 300 in July was another first in class and overall. We completed the VORRA Fernley Desert Challenge in September with a second in class. To top off the year, Sam finished the VORRA three race championships with a first place in class. With only one race remaining for the year, we have achieved our goals. At the VORRA awards banquet we received trophies for first in the pro/unlimited class, first in the desert series and first overall.
