L.A. SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT RACE AND CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP Las Vegas, Nevada-The Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies Off-Road Race Team drove their 2000 Ford Ranger 4X4 truck into an early lead and held on to win the Las Vegas 200 by roughly 20 minutes. This race was the fourth and last race in the 2000 Best In The desert Racing Association's "Silver State Series".
The race course originally was to be two times around a 110 mile loop on the Moapa Indian Reservation just east of Las Vegas, Nevada, but because of a last minute problem, the course was changed to four times around a 50 mile loop on nearby B.L.M. land.
The Deputies started third out of seven trucks in their class. The starting interval was only 15 seconds between vehicles and at the 1/2 mile mark, the Deputies were already in the physical lead by 30 seconds. The only stop the Deputies made, was for fuel at the end of the second lap. At the finish line, the Deputies had put almost 20 minutes on the second place team of Rob MacCachren and Steve Olliges, also in a Ford Ranger.
