Garron Cadiente Crowned "Rookie of the Year" in SCORE International and BITD Desert Racing Series
Mesa, Arizona (December 13, 2006) -- Garron Cadiente was the talk of the desert in early March 2006, when he stunned the nation's top off road racers, winning the prestigious SCORE San Felipe 250. He accomplished that feat with the style of a seasoned veteran, although it was only the beginning of a long season in the deserts of North America.
Joining an elite group of world class drivers, Garron Cadiente was crowed the 2006 SCORE International Rookie of the Year on Saturday evening at the 2006 SCORE Awards Night.
In 1974, the legendary Frank Vessels was awarded the first ever SCORE Rookie of the Year honors. He was followed by some of the top drivers in desert racing history that includes NASCAR drivers, Robby Gordon and 2006 NASCAR Champion, Jimmy Johnson. In 1993, the award was earned by Motocross and Supercross legend, Ricky Johnson, who captured the award after his retirement from professional motorcycle competitions at the young age of 26 years old. The SCORE Rookie of the Year list is long and distinguished.
Cadiente captivated his peers with his ambitious wide-open driving style claiming his first two victories within five-weeks of each other at the very difficult SCORE San Felipe 250 and challenging BITD Terrible's Town 250.
"It's been a great season. We put together some solid performances early in the season scoring our first win at San Felipe and then having a near flawless race at Terrible's Town. Our team has done a tremendous job all season long, as well as successfully overcoming the difficult obstacles associated with off road racing. Next season is right around the corner and we've got to step it up and have some good luck in order to be in position for the SCORE Championship," commented the desert's top rookie.
G&R Racing competed in both of the nation's top desert racing series, SCORE and Best in the Desert. Fielding both the #38 truck driven by Garron Cadiente and the #39 truck piloted by Ron Whitton, their successful 2006 season announced to the world that G&R Racing is here to stay.
Cadiente led a strong field of race teams, all hunting for the BITD Trick Truck Series championship. His dominant victory in the last race of the season over Curt LeDuc catapulted him to the top of the point's race for the Trick Truck series championship win, however in the midst of the championship dust, he also captured the BITD Rookie of the Year award claiming both of the top honors in the Best In The Desert Series.
Fashioned in a black suit with his wife, Kim, at his side, Garron said, "Winning both series' Rookie of the Year honors is a great privilege. It's been an exceptional season and we will be charging hard in 2007."
