Topeka, Kan. (Oct. 1): In only her third start at the wheel of the Exide Batteries dragster and sixth Top Fuel start of her career, Melanie Troxel showed her potential as she once again started from the top half of the field for the Advance Auto Parts Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

Troxel started final eliminations with a Round 1 victory over David Grubnic. With a starting line advantage, Troxel drove away for the win with a 4.685 e.t. at 312.06 mph. That would set up the inevitable. After three races as teammates, Troxel and Tony Schumacher would be forced to run each other in Round 2.

Troxel's Exide dragster started to haze the tires at about 200 feet and she shut it off as she watched teammate, Schumacher move onto the semifinals.

"It is really hard to lose any round," said Troxel, "but if the team still benefits, it's at least some consolation."

Troxel will have four more races to try to claim her first Top Fuel victory and she is more than confident that her team has the ability to get to the winner's circle before year end.

"The more time this team spends together, the better we are getting," said Troxel, "there are still 16 rounds of racing left this season for us to show our stuff."

"This was only our third race together and looked what we've accomplished so far," added Troxel referring to NHRA best e.t. and mph records for any female driver.

Troxel and teammates will travel next week to Memphis Motorsports Park for the 12th Annual AutoZone Nationals, October 7-10.
