AL ANABI DOMINANCE – The Al-Anabi Toyota dragsters of Del Worsham and Larry Dixon will look to continue the dominating presence on display at Charlotte in the 4-Wide Nationals. The duo led three of four qualifying sessions with neither driver below third in the four runs. In Sunday’s eliminations, both Worsham and Dixon won their first two rounds with the weekend culminating in Worsham narrowly defeating Dixon in an Al-Anabi one-two finish. Not surprisingly, the two Al-Anabi drivers currently stand first and second in the points race with Worsham holding a 77-point advantage over Dixon. The team has now won 13 of the last 23 NHRA Top Fuel races.
MORE DEL - Despite not racing a Top Fuel car since 1995, Del Worsham has been a model of consistency since moving from his Toyota Camry Funny Car to Top Fuel competition. In the season’s first four races, Worsham has two victories and has advanced to the semi-finals or beyond at each event – the only driver in the series to do so. Worsham won at Gainesville and Charlotte, and advanced to the semi-finals at both Pomona and Las Vegas.
LANGDON CLOSING IN ON FIRST WIN – Shawn Langdon is still looking for his first career NHRA Top Fuel victory, but if recent performance is an indicator, that win may be just around the corner. The Mira Loma, Calif., driver has reached the finals in three of the last five events including the most recent race at Charlotte. Langdon currently sits sixth in points after placing fifth overall in 2010.
LAST YEAR AT HOUSTON – Toyota-sponsored Top Fuelers Larry Dixon and Antron Brown led the way last year at Houston. Dixon was the number one qualifier with Brown right behind him in second. In addition, the duo registered the quickest side-by-side run in Top Fuel history when each ran in the 3.77s in Saturday qualifying. Fittingly, the pair met in the finals with Dixon winning a pedal-fest as each driver struggled to get down the race track. The triumph was the 50th of Dixon’s career and his third at Houston. TOYOTA TOP FUELERS ON A ROLL - Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel drivers have won each of the first four events this season and five in a row dating back to last season’s finale. In addition, Toyota-sponsored drivers have now won nine of the last 11 Top Fuel events. Toyota drivers currently occupy the top three spots in the point standings and five of the top eight positions.
