COMFORTABLE BROWN STREAKS TOWARD CHARLOTTE - After getting to know a new team and a new car for much of last year, Antron Brown has found a new comfort level with his Don Schumacher Racing team and the result is things get much more uncomfortable for his competition.
Over the last four races, Brown has registered two victories (Pomona to close out 2010 and last race at Las Vegas) and has reached the finals in three of the four events, making him the hottest driver on the circuit heading into this weekend’s Charlotte 4-Wide Nationals - where he advanced to the finals a year ago. Dating back to the Reading event last season, Brown has advanced to the semi-finals or beyond in five of the last six events. With the strong surge, Brown has climbed into second-place in the Top Fuel point standings – just eight points out of the series lead.
CONSISTENCY POWERS WORSHAM TO TOP OF STANDINGS – Despite not racing a Top Fuel car since 1995, Del Worsham has been a model of consistency since moving from his Toyota Camry Funny Car to Top Fuel competition. In the season’s first three races, Worsham has advanced to the semi-finals or finals in each of the season’s first three events – the only driver in the series to do so. Worsham won at Gainesville and advanced to the semi-finals at both Pomona and Las Vegas. He continues to lead the Top Fuel point standings with a 265-257 advantage over Antron Brown.
CHARLOTTE KEY TO PEDREGON’s RISE – After struggling throughout much of last season, Cruz Pedregon put it all together last Fall in Charlotte, first taking the top spot in qualifying and then winning the race in dominating fashion – with the quickest run in six of eight sessions run that weekend. Since that point, Pedregon has been the hottest driver in the Funny Car ranks, winning two races last Fall – and now he’s picked up where he left off with a top qualifier at Pomona, a finals appearance at Gainesville and a semi-final showing at Las Vegas to move up to second place in the Funny Car point standings. Pedregon also holds the distinction of qualifying in the top-six overall in 13 consecutive races. No other FC driver has registered more than three during that span.
IT’S GOOD TO BE A TOYOTA DRIVER - Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel drivers have won each of the first three events this season and four in a row dating back to last season’s finale. In addition, Toyota-sponsored drivers have now won eight of the last 10 Top Fuel events. Toyota drivers currently occupy the top two spots in the point standings and five of the top seven spots. .
