Thornton, Colo. (Sept 24): One year after unusually cold temperatures and snow showers delayed the final day of competition, the NHRA Winston Drag Racing tour heads back to Heartland Park Topeka for the Advance Auto Parts Nationals and Melanie Troxel says "bring on the cool weather."

Troxel's last visit to Heartland Park resulted in the Federal Mogul Dragster victory and explains her eagerness to return to the Topeka, Kansas facility. Troxel's victory was her second win in that class during the 1999 season en route to her second place finish in championship points. Troxel is also no stranger to the Heartland Park quarter mile.

"This is a Division 5 track and also the closest to Denver after Bandimere," explained Troxel, "it's like a second home track to me. Since I started racing, we have always run Heartland Park."

The Advance Auto Parts Nationals will be third race for Troxel in the Don Schumacher-owned Exide Batteries Top Fuel dragster, tuned by Dan Olson. Troxel has already piloted it to a career best e.t. and mph and is now the quickest and fastest female in drag racing.

"I'm not concerned with the personal records," said Troxel, "it's nice to set those, but I would rather win a race before the end of the year."

Qualifying for the Advance Auto Parts Nationals are scheduled for Friday, September 29 at 3 pm and 7 pm and Saturday, September 30 at noon and 4 pm. Final eliminations are scheduled for Sunday, October 1 at 10am. TNN will televise the Advance Auto Parts Nationals. Check local listings for times.
