Tony Pedregon Sets Eyes on Four In A Row At Heartland Park Topeka

Topeka, Kan., May 25, 2004 - After a stunning top-qualifying pass of 4.716 seconds at 331.28 mph in Chicago last weekend, defending Funny Car champion Tony Pedregon heads to Heartland Park Topeka for the NHRA Summer Nationals on May 27-30 where he has won the last three events. The Quaker State racing team with their "Shrek 2" themed promotion paint scheme has a lot of momentum heading into this race and will look to make it four in a row this weekend.

"We've proven that we're capable of qualifying this car very well," said Pedregon. "Now we just need to put four consistent runs together on race day and we'll be set. Topeka has always been one of the better tracks that we race at throughout the year. I've had a lot of success there and you can bet we're intending to make it four in a row. It will be the last race for us driving the "Shrek 2" car as a promotion and I'd like nothing more than to put it in the winner circle."

"We know the performance is there we just need to put the consistency with it and then hopefully we can get a win," added Pedregon. "It's tougher now because it's more competitive but the potential is there and with this new Monte Carlo body we feel we're on the same level playing field as the rest of the competition. We're hoping it's just a matter of time before we can put it together and I believe we can."

Pedregon is currently ninth in the NHRA POWERade Funny Car points standings, just four rounds out of the top-five.

The Quaker State racing team will begin their pursuit for their first victory of the season when qualifying begins on Friday, May 28th at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions are scheduled for Saturday, May 29th at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Final eliminations will be on Sunday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m.

Qualifying coverage of the NHRA Summer Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday, May 29th from 8:00 - 10:00 pm. (ET). Final eliminations can be seen on Sunday, May 30th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (ET)
