Topeka, Kan. (Pre-race) - This weekend Brian "Lump" Self, driver of the Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10, will throw caution to the wind when he pulls out all stops in an effort to win the Pro Stock Truck title at the 12th Annual Advance Auto Part NHRA Nationals in Topeka, Kan.
Self, owner and driver of the Roof-Tec machine, comes to Topeka with a new found air of confidence and a "go for it" attitude which he hopes will translate into a Pro Stock Truck win.
"In Topeka we are going for it from the first hit!" said Self. "We are not going to be conservative the first lap and see what the track will hold like we have in the past. We are going to try and rotate the earth from the very first hit. This late in the year I am not afraid to take chances. Being conservative is not going to win us any races. It is time to get aggressive. I'm not scared to take a chance. I'm going for it!
"Last year we qualified Number 4 in Topeka, and then I red-lit in the first round. We ran real well last year so we have good data on the racetrack. I think the weather this year is going to be perfect. Not so gosh darn cold as it was last year. With the warmer temperatures, this racetrack will hold a lot of bite, so that means you can throw lots of clutch at it. We are going to throw everything we have at it, and then some. One of two things is going to happen. Either we are going to haul ass, or fall on our faces. Whichever way it goes, we are ready to give it hell this weekend.
"I feel more confident going into this race in Topeka than anywhere else we have raced all year. I feel like we have all the ingredients to make this one of our best races. We have been thrashing back at the shop making horsepower. We have good data on the racetrack. We have qualified well there before. The weather should be good and my confidence as a driver is pretty high. I think we may just surprise some people this weekend.
"We are going to be aggressive. We are going to race smart. We are going to take chances, and hopefully we will be going to the winner circle Sunday night."
Qualifying at the 12th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals begins on Friday Sept. 29, and continues on Saturday Sept. 30. Eliminations will take place on Sunday Oct. 1 at 11:00 AM CST.
