DIXON WILL START FROM NO. 9 SPOT AT TOPEKA
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 27, 2006) Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite Top Fuel dragster to the No. 9 qualifying position Saturday at Heartland Park Topeka after recording a qualifying-best run of 4.696 seconds.
The 38-time winner made his best pass on his opening qualifying attempt when he used a tune-up from crew chief Don Bender to power his Miller Lite/Lucas Oil-backed rail to a performance of 4.696 seconds at 312.64 mph on a hot Heartland Park quarter mile. Dixon also raced to a run of 4.787 at 298.67 on his final qualifying attempt. It is the 15th time that Dixon has qualified ninth in his career.
Dixon will battle rival and No. 8 qualifier Brandon Bernstein in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations, which kick-off at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday morning at Heartland Park. Dixon, a four-time finalist at the Topeka race, is 4-6 in his career versus Bernstein.
