In the opening round John Coughlin faced Jeff Gracia. Gracia left the line first by .039 seconds (.431 to .470). Both drivers headed straight down the middle of their respective lanes. John slowed and the win light came on for Gracia.

"We came up a little short today. Our focus will switch to the race in Chicago and the Holley Dominator Duel," said John.

Mike Coughlin went head-to-head with local favorite Todd Patterson. The
match up pitted a Chevy S-10 against a Dodge. The Jeg's machine left the
starting line first and never looked back (.452 to .490). The win light went
to Mike on a holeshot by .0123 seconds. He ran a slower 7.613 at 177.09 mph.

"We did what we had to do and Team Jeg's got the job done. The track was tricky in the first round and it probably will not get any better," commented Mike.

Mike went head-to-head against Randy Daniels. The reaction time advantage went to Daniels by .015 seconds (.432 to .447). The two Chevy S-10's battled side-by-side as Daniels inched ahead the closer the pair got to the finish line. Daniels took the win light and Mike ran a slower 7.670 at 175.73 mph.

"The performance advantage was in the other lane. The track got worse and made a lot of changes to the set up of our Chevy S-10 to compensate for it. We moved in the right direction," said Mike.
