Kalitta hopes to break second round jinx in Topeka.

Topeka, KS, May 22, 2002 - It seems that an unwanted pattern is establishing a foothold within the Team Kalitta Top Fuel pits. At the past four NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events, driver Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools dragster team have lost in the second round of final eliminations. At the last three events, the Mac Tools dragster has performed exceptionally well; unfortunately, the dragsters in the opposite lane have run the best low elapsed times of the second round.

"It is incredibly frustrating," said Co-Crew Chief Jim Oberhofer. "Our Mac Tools dragster has been running great lately, but we seem to keep racing against cars that run their best against us. Winning at this level of drag racing takes consistency, but we are ready for this routine to end."

Team Kalitta is prepared to break the vicious cycle this weekend as the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series heads west from Englishtown, New Jersey to the plains of Topeka, Kansas for the NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals, May 23-26 at Heartland Park Topeka.

Kalitta said, "Despite the recent string of bad luck that our Mac Tools dragster team has had, my confidence always remains high because I know that the best crew in drag racing works on our dragster. We have one of the best performing cars on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tour. With just a little bit of good luck, we will get back to our winning tradition."
