Herbert Solidly in Top Half of Field

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 31, 2008) Four rounds of qualifying action for the NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka placed Doug Herbert, owner and driver of the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel dragster, in the fast half of the field and the No. 6 position.

Herbert's quickest pass came during Friday night's session, with the 8,000 horsepower SnaponFranchise.com machine sailing through the lights in 4.60 seconds at 313.35 mph. The veteran driver also made a strong showing with solid passes during the heat of the day.

"Qualifying in the top half of the field is always good," said Herbert. "We will have lane choice and the chance to watch a few other pairs of cars go down the track before making our decision on which lane we want. The competition these days is really tough, and having lane choice can be the difference between a short race day and a long race day.

"Everyone on the Snap-on team is working really hard to make sure we have a long day tomorrow. We are determined to win, and we aren't going to keep letting bad things happen to put us out early during eliminations.

"We made a couple strong runs during the heat of the day which is important, too. Being able to make it down the track in the heat a little better than some of the teams gives us an advantage. We are ready to come out win this thing tomorrow."
