Johnson aims to repeat with second career NHRA Summer Nationals win

Auburn Hills, Mich. -- NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson returns to the scene of his first race win of 2009 at Heartland Park Topeka this weekend with his mind set on a repeat. Johnson and his J&J Racing team mastered a hot, slippery track to tame the competition last season at the NHRA Summer Nationals, but the task this year could be all together different.

"We owned Heartland Park last year," said Johnson, driver of the Mopar Dodge Avenger. "The track was hot and slick and bald, but our car was good enough to slide to the victory. Normally, the track there is not like that and everyone seems have grip and run well. We'll just have to see what happens this year."

Johnson qualified No. 2 and had the quickest pass in the first three rounds of 2009 eliminations, then defeated Mike Edwards in the finals on a holeshot to capture his sixth career win. Currently second in the NHRA Pro Stock point standings, Johnson hopes to repeat and earn his eighth career Pro Stock win this weekend.

"We feel like we have a really good setup on our Mopar Dodge Avenger no matter what the track is like," said Johnson. "We really had the car to beat last weekend in Atlanta before the little hiccough there in the semifinals. If we have a trouble-free weekend at Topeka, that repeat is ours for the taking."
